Italian radio SW demise

And so RAI foreign language programs are shut down as from today. Who will notice? I mean, not the media observers and the specialized listener, but the general SW listener who tunes to Europe – or even Italy – from time to time. How long have you tuned to Italy on SW? I did from time to time, apart from Italian programs when I am abroad, in English and other languages.
I remember a note in Glenn Hauser bulletin (It was DX Digest? Really I do not remember) in the 1980s, it read it seemed the newscast was read by the cleaning woman who happened to find a sheet of paper on a table and began reading it. Tough words, but were they the truth?
For many years programs were limited to twenty minutes, the first ten devoted to a newscast of Italian music, the remaining time to a selection of music. I have always doubted that someone may be interested in such programs.
Broadcasters who don’t get up with time perish, that’s the case of Austrian radio, and they made superb programs with a limited staff, others consolidate into a few languages, and survive.
I think just a few people – specialists apart – may realize the demise of RAI foreign programs.
